The difference between this and your home tests is that the tests you do yourself show your blood glucose levels at that point in time and the HbA1c test gives glucose level for the previous six to eight weeks. The HbA1c test gives results in percentage format – the closer they are to 7 per cent (or below) the better.

Keeping your blood glucose level well controlled is well worth your effort as it will help to reduce your risk of suffering from more serious health conditions arising from diabetes. Good control means that the biggest part of your figures easily inside the healthy range of between 4 and 7 millimoles per liter. This means that your HbA1c result will be close to 7 per cent.
