New York Attorneys Clients Rights
New York Lawyers and New York Attorneys Rates are controlled by rules.
There are general requirements which must be met by New York Lawyers and New York Attorneys and also DWI Lawyers
All New York Attorneys are complelled to hang a list of rights in his or her office where it may be read by clients
Generally Speaking it gives clients a clear outline of what they may expect from their attorney
1. You are entitled to be treated with courtesy and with respect always by your attorney and the other attorneys and personnel in your attorneys office.
2. You are entitled to a lawyer who is capable of handling your legal matter competently and diligently, in accordance with the highest standards of the legal. If you are not happy with how your case is being dealt with, you have the right to pull out from the attorney-client relationship at any time (court approval may be necessary in some matters and your attorney may have a claim against you for the cost of legal work donefor you up to the point of termination of the arrangement).
3. You are entitled to your lawyers independent professional opinion and undivided loyalty which must not be swayed by conflicts of interest.
4. You are entitled to pay a reasonable fee and to have your attorney detail at the beginning outset how the fee will be computed and the manner and frequency of billing. You are entitled to request and receive a written itemized bill from your lawyer at reasonable time intervals. You may refuse to agree to any fee arrangement that you do not feel is fair. In the event of a fee dispute, you may have the right to go to arbitration: your attorney will provide you with the necessary information about arbitration in the event of a fee dispute, or upon request.
5. You are entitled to have your questions and concerns addressed in a swift manner and to have your voicecalls returned swiftly.
6. You are entitled to be kept up to date as to the process of your case and to ask for and receive copies of papers. You are entitled to sufficient information to allow you to participate to a meaningful extent in the development of your case.
7. You should have your legitimate objectives respected by your attorney, including whether or not to settle your matter (court approval of a settlement can be in some cases).
8. You have the right to secrecy in your dealings with your legal representative and to have your secrets and confidences kept to the extent permitted by law.
