What Does Dressing Retro Mean?
It can often be hard to keep up with fashion; it moves so quickly. There’s no need to worry, though, as there are some absolutely fantastic retro items that are just as stylish today as they were when they were first designed. Take the lumberjack shirt: this plaid button-down is perennially popular and now comes in many colors so you can choose one to suit you. You can also choose from warm winter flannel or a lighter weight option to see you through the summer months.
Another great retro item for vintage-loving women is the prom dress. Of course, you can get modern versions of this, but it was arguably at its best in the 1950s and 60s (think Sandy from Grease). These are great with puffball skirts in bright colors such as pink, green, purple or blue or you can get some fantastic designs with flared skirts and tight bodices that are great for showing off your curves. Go for a shorter length and it can double as a regular party dress.
For those of you who prefer pants to skirts, put a stamp on your style with pants with a flare. There’s a massive range available so you’re bound to find the perfect pair. One great option for a posh night out is dark velvet flares. You could also choose bright colors such as red for a style statement, or relive your hippy days with some fantastic denim, bell-bottomed jeans. These are particularly great for curvy, pear-shaped women as the flare is flattering and makes your hips appear smaller.
A brilliant trend from the 1970s is the long, floating dress. You may think this sounds familiar: the shops are currently full of long, maxi dresses but their provenance dates back decades. Get a long dress with lace overlay for a pretty, girly option or choose a bright pattern if you like to stand out from the crowd. There are also some great casual options for days out or for chilling out in around the house: those seventies ladies obviously had the right idea.
No outfit is complete without some gorgeous accessories and you’re in luck – retro accessories are as great as the clothes. One popular option is a colorful patterned scarf to add a quirky accent to your outfit. You could also get some massive sunglasses in the manner of Audrey Hepburn or a bright colored band to wear in your hair. These items were once in style for a reason and they’re sure to come back into fashion sooner or later, so get ahead of the trend and go retro today.
